Harvest 2013

This year, harvest was pretty extreme.  The weather was like no other fall I’ve experienced, with poorly timed rains making it difficult to get anything done.  I remember when we first started, talking with my sister about how “oh yeah, we’ll be done in no time!  We should be finished by the end of this week!’ and we would have been, if it hadn’t rained and altered our plans.  As it was, harvest lasted a good two months this year.  For the first time, I lost the joy I always feel hopping in the tractor to connect with the land.  This fall, it became a chore.  I’m not trying to complain here, but it really was quite the time.  Harvest just went on, and on, and on, and ON.  Once the combining was finished up, there was field work to be done.  Not to mention the cows.  It felt like there was never ending work to be done.  But there is peace in winter and I’m so looking forward to the coming months. ..
